Position Summary:

Provides professional and administrative support for the dean of the school of public health. Performs advanced, and confidential administrative support duties requiring experience, skill and knowledge of organizations policies and practice. The individual in this position will support multiple projects within the School of Public Health at the Brownsville Regional Campus.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day business operations for the campus dean.

  • Regularly handle confidential information and sensitive issues.

  • Serves as an external liaison for the school dean to provide and ensure a smooth, efficient, and appropriate flow of information.

  • Serve as the dean’s primary assistant by resolving complex inquiries, questions, and tasks; forwarding correspondence to correct people for action; identifying and assigning action items to others as appropriate and then tracking their progress and completion.

  • Maintain complex schedules and coordinate related meetings and presentation arrangements.

  • Process all travel and reimbursement-related activities for the dean.

  • Must serve as a high-level administrative liaison between dean and outside partners to facilitate programs and opportunities.

  • Coordinate projects and implements strategies during the development of projects by providing overall design, execution, and management to ensure the achievement of goals and objectives.

  • Coordinates with assigned employees in performing the project.

  • Adhere to the original project schedule through consistent follow-up.

  • Participates in all phases of projects in related activities, including assessing regional needs for program education, developing regional outreach plans based on needs assessment findings.

  • Attends functions to keep abreast of developments related to programs.

  • Acts as a liaison with appropriate institutional agents; prepares and makes oral presentations at professional meetings, as needed.

  • Keeps the dean informed of all ongoing projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Knowledge of MS Office, SPSS or statistics software applications.

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

  • Three years of related experience.

  • May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

  • Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
