Research Associate/Senior Research Associate - Pediatric Surgery (lab) located at our South Campus of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas.
• Well versed in common experimental techniques to study cellular and molecular biology
• Experience in coagulation science and/or trauma is preferred but not required. Experience with platelets preferred, yet not required.
• Follows the laboratory’s SOPs for handling and processing, analyzing, reviewing and reporting data and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintains accurate and timely research records to include notebooks, records, databases, etc.
• Experience with aseptic cell culture techniques is preferred. Familiarity of a patient driven research environment.
• Knowledge and experience in common research techniques, such as IHC, qPCR, ELISA, western blots etc.
• Knowledge and experience in flow cytometry is preferred.
• Assists with the development, optimization, and validation of new assays, procedures and SOPs according to regulatory requirements.
The Children’s Program in Regenerative Medicine and Center for Translational Injury Research at UTHealth-Houston seeks a motivated individual to join our well-established team which includes multiple independently funded PIs. This fully-funded position will investigate aspects of blood coagulation biology with a focus on acute traumatic injury. The focus of this work will be on the interplay between platelet function and fibrinolysis, and is expected to produce high-impact publications in this poorly understood field.
This candidate will be embedded in a highly collaborative group with diverse focus on acute injury, including coagulation science, neuroinflammation, and stem cell biology and therapeutics. A successful candidate will be encouraged to develop and explore independent efforts in these areas, with the primary goal of developing independence as an individual investigator.

Works well with diverse and multidisciplinary teams and collaborators in various research activities that may include traditional laboratory experiments and activities, informatics, and/or animal laboratories. Makes independent decisions as required, which may impact research team or assigned project
Monitors and maintains clean laboratory equipment and work area. Participates in continuing education programs, seminars, and workshops. May provided guidance and training of laboratory technicians, support staff and other assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results. Expected to contribute to research publications, presentations, and funding applications.
Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.

Position Summary:
Plans, conducts, and directs a wide variety of experiments. Assists with the day-to-day activities for research project(s) and may impact the success of the research project(s).
Position Key Accountabilities:
Collects, evaluates, interprets, and documents research data to accomplish the objectives of a wide variety of scientific experiments and research projects.
Influences project direction and outcomes by identifying opportunities to enhance, terminate, or re-direct research activities.
May recruit study participants or field interviewers.
Evaluates and interprets data and provides results to investigators to support publication.
Maintains quality control checks and a safe environment in compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.
Assists in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers and grant proposals for presentation and publication.
Provides direction and training to lab personnel to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results in compliance with all protocols, guidelines, regulations, etc.
Performs other duties as assigned.
1. Bachelor's Degree or higher
2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in lab-based research preferred.
3. Experience in aseptic cell culture techniques
4. Willingness to work flexible and extended hours as necessary with compensation available.
5. Personal responsibility and ability to work independently without supervision
6. Ability to work in teams with good interpersonal skills
7. Impeccable record keeping skills, compatible with regulatory requirements.
Certification/Skills:
Considerable knowledge in basic and sophisticated equipment.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with three (3) years of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or
Master’s degree in a related field with one (1) year of related research experience including experience in a lead research role; or
Doctorate degree.
Minimum Experience:
Years of experience varies based on education level.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
