McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), a leading academic health center, invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), faculty position in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Cardiology. The selected candidate will contribute to the department’s mission discover and translate advances in the biomedical sciences through research, teaching, clinical service, administrative activities, and other service.

Position Key Accountabilities:

The Rank of Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine-Cardiology will conduct research in cardiac metabolism, heart failure, and diabetes.

  • Supporting the research mission of the department and university through:

a) Facilitating reasonable and appropriate access to animal studies by research staff

b) Assisting when requested with collection of research data including biological specimens and

c) Providing information and education on on-going research studies to potentially eligible research subjects

  • Collaborating with other researchers (internal and external to UTHealth) to identify and pursue research opportunities that would complement and grow the national reputation of UTHealth as a leading academic institution in research on cardiometabolic disorders.

  • Providing coaching, mentoring, support and consultation to research personnel.

  • Participate in facilitating, reviewing, and approving research project budget/s for UTHealth, including estimates of future personnel and equipment needs; ensuring that resources are optimally utilized through participation in strategic planning and financial budgeting processes, and development of practices that achieve specific objectives and resolution of unfavorable performance variances; providing leadership and implementing strategies to provide cost effective measures.

  • Participating in the education and training of research students and residents- Contributing in the recruitment, selection and hiring of new or additional research personnel to the group

  • Serving as role model in professional behavior and leadership skills, problem-solving ability and interpersonal skills

  • Participating in and/or work groups and meetings at as appropriate

  • Maintaining professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-services, current literature and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in fields of expertise; supporting and promoting education and research.

Qualifications:

Qualified applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence, discovery and service, have potential to be outstanding in their field of expertise, and share an interest in fulfilling the common goals of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. Preferred applicants will possess a PhD and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship with a research focus on novel molecular mechanisms, as well as, demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong potential for a leadership role within the department.
