The University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health invites applications to fill tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor level on the Houston Campus located in the Texas Medical Center. Two positions are available and affiliated with the Center for Infectious Diseases , a large and well established research center within the Department of Epidemiology, Human Genetics and Environmental Sciences.

Position Key Accountabilities:

Primary responsibilities will include developing collaborations across campuses, departments, conducting externally funded research, and leading graduate-level courses.


(1) doctoral degree; (2) current teaching and research emphasis on genomics, omics analyses of microbial agents (specific expertise in virology is preferred for one position), and translational research; (3) track record of research in the specified topics with a publication and extramural external funding record commensurate with the academic rank and (4) expertise in analyses of big data set including clinical metadata.

Ideal candidates should possess expertise in evolutionary biology or host-pathogen interactions and incorporate genomic and other omics analyses of microbial pathogens within their research. The candidates should be able to integrate genomic and “omic” analyses with clinical samples and metadata data sets and utilize cutting-edge approaches to gain meaningful clinically relevant information for use in epidemiological analyses, diagnostics, interventions and therapeutics, and clinical settings. A translational focus is also ideal.

The selected candidate(s) would have access to all resources and research infrastructure of the Center for Antimicrobial Resistance and Microbial Genomics (CARMiG) available to them, including cutting edge facilities for DNA sequencing of microbial pathogens and analyses in coordination with the UTHealth School of BioMedical Informatics. CARMiG has faculty across 8 institutions in the medical center and coordinates activities with the Gulf Coast Consortia, the largest collaborative research entity in the country.
