Provides a broad range of support services to the communications department at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center UTHealth Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. With the expansion of the school’s communication department, this role will be critical to increasing the Graduate School’s social media reach and communication strategy. This position will be part of a team that develops creative and compelling content for digital and printed publications. This team member will also help plan and take photography for the school’s social media, website, and printed materials.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Produces well-written, creative copy for social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn); writes/edits news and feature articles for school’s internal newsletter, website; collaborates with and assists the school’s communications manager as assigned; prepares reports.
Produces photography for the school’s website, social media channels, and printed materials. This will include editing photos. May also include assisting in art direction on photo shoots. May also involve some video filming/editing.
Uses desktop publishing software to create various print and electronic publications (flyers/brochures).
Manages the printing and ordering of business cards for students and staff members. May also assist with the printing, assembly, and distribution of additional publications to faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
Ensures that student events are promoted in the school’s internal newsletter and social media channels.
May provide receptionist duties as needed.
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) is preferred.
Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) is preferred.
Proficient in AP Style.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or allied field.
- Two (2) years of experience working in the communications or allied fields (digital news resources, public relations/marketing firm, etc.) is preferred. Internship experience is acceptable.
- Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
- This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
