Position Summary:

The Schools of Public Health at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston announces a data control analyst position at the University of Texas at Houston, focusing on data integration/management, big data science, HIV phylogenetic analysis, and social network methodology applied to public health and health behavioral research, HIV prevention research, HIV molecular epidemiology, and other public health fields of public health. Utilizing analytical and data management tools, performs intermediate to advanced level data creation, management, analysis and troubleshooting activities in support of multiple financial, operational and/or research projects and studies. Performs statistical analyses associated with projects. Ensures data management complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as well as institutional requirements, policies and procedures.

The position includes opportunities for population-level surveillance data management, conducting machine learning and statistical methods to analyze sequence/network data. The position will focus on managing various sources of surveillance and cohort social/phylogenetic network data, conducting phylogenetic, statistical, and social network analyses, and assist in publishing empirical papers from ongoing studies in the United States.Various data integration/management tasks will be conducted at Houston Health Department (HHD) and thus, an applicant is expected to work at HHD (8000 N Stadium Dr, Houston). Specific duties will include development and monitoring of standard operating procedures to ensure high quality data, conducting data quality assurance activities, performing data extraction, and most importantly, establishing and maintaining analytical datasets using standard software packages (i.e., R, SAS, python), and performing data analyses of various kinds including social network anlaysis and phylogenetic anlaysis, statistical method.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Responsible for managing and maintaining data for multiple financial, operational and/or research projects or efforts.

  2. Creates, supports, and troubleshoots tools or software used to manage data.

  3. Assesses the quality of data; develops and maintains quality requirements and controls for databases; establishes data standards and business rules.

  4. Designs database queries and compiles, analyzes, and reports statistical data for projects.

  5. Reviews and evaluates available tools, methodologies, best practices, and techniques to optimize data management activities.

  6. Creates and maintains all documentation for all assigned applications.

  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

Detailed knowledge of query design, report creation, and graphic representations of data.

Knowledge and experience managing complex databases.

Experience providing analysis of data.

Preferred:

  • Strong proficiency in R programming , SAS, Python for data management and analysis .

  • Strong expertise in writing and implementing SAS/R programs and macros.

  • Experience with SQL and C++.

  • Working knowledge of ICD-9/10, CPT and LOINC codes

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or related field.

Minimum Experience:

Three (3) years of experience with complex databases.

Preferred:

A master’s degree preferably from Computer Science, Statistics, biomedical informatics, Engineering, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, or other social science disciplines, demonstrated strong quantitative analytic skills including programming skills, and a strong interest in publishing research article related to biomedical informatics and computer sciences, and health behavioral or HIV research. Strong programming skills including R and SAS.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
