Position Summary

UTHealth is seeking a driven Director of Marketing to oversee the marketing, communications, and community relations functions of hospital-based programs within the Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center, which includes UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center and the Dunn Center Building. The Director will join at an exciting time as UTHealth is expanding it continuum of care with the opening of the Dunn Center Building in early 2022. Adding another 264 beds, the opening of the new facility will bolster the university’s behavioral health initiatives and address significant gaps in mental health care services in our communities.

The inaugural Director will develop and implement a strategic marketing plan that raises awareness of the Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center’s premiere programs and contributes to targeted census goals.

Serving as an ambassador of the Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center, the Director will implement a communication strategy that aligns with the marketing strategy and strengthens the center’s brand image as a leading academic institution that delivers the highest quality clinical care and exemplary service to patients.

Position Key Accountabilities

  1. Develops, implements, and oversees all strategic marketing functions including the implementation of marketing campaigns for specific hospital-based programs. Works collaboratively with UTHealth Marketing and Communication to ensure plans are aligned with the university’s overall marketing strategy.

  2. Manages the brand and reputation for the center’s hospital-based programs. Develops and implements a communication strategy that highlights excellence. Works collaboratively with the Office of Public Affairs to ensure plans are aligned with the university’s overall communication strategy.

  3. Responsible for overall project management, project budgets, timelines, and the evaluation of project work.

  4. Participates in the development of the marketing budget and maintains expenditures within the established budget.

  5. Works collaboratively to support the Office of Public Affairs Media Relations team to maximize media opportunities that will enhance the center’s image.

  6. Updates and maintains the center’s hospital websites, adhering to university brand standards. Establishes and maintains a social media presence as needed.

  7. Develops and implements internal publications and announcements utilizing both print and electronic strategies.

  8. Collaborates regularly with offices in UTHealth central administration, including Marketing and Communication, Public Affairs, and Development, to ensure a full integration between the center and UTHealth.

  9. Annually conduct market research and updates the center’s files of all local inpatient and partial hospitalization programs.

  10. Manages Human Resource activities for direct reports in regard to: recruiting and selection, training, development, mentoring, supervision and performance evaluations.

  11. Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient and assets are safeguarded.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills

Superior verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in communication, marketing or related field.

Minimum Experience

Seven (7) years of related experience in marketing, public relations, or a related area. Experience in a healthcare setting as a marketing director or supervisor is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
