Under the direction of the Director, Clinical Documentation Improvement, the role of the CDI Educator is to provide one-on-one, virtual, recorded, and classroom clinical documentation and coding education to the CDI team, medical providers, leadership and other healthcare staff members. The CDI Educator collaborates and works closely with CDI leadership and leads from various platforms to identify specific areas and providers in need of education. Works with Human Resources to ensure all new providers receive CDI onboarding.
Position Key Accountabilities:
In collaboration with coding, billing compliance and the CDI team- designs, implements and maintains formal and informal educational materials, presentations and assessments to support physician documentation compliance.
Responsible for creating and delivering education to new providers during new hire orientation.
Maintains UTP internet site for CDI education resources and is responsible for maintaining and responding to provider requests for CDI services.
Maintains CDI team group email for CDI education requests.
Surveys, catalogs, and reports on formal education and onboarding education success via provider responses.
Supports the development of new workflows that help imbed documentation concepts into the provider’s daily work (i.e. problem list, orders, 3rd Party Applications) and assists with the education of these tools and workflows to maximize compliance.
Identifies trends/opportunities for improvement in documentation habits of service line and reports that information to the CDI group during collaborative meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must have at least one of the following certifications from each row:
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Nurse (RN)
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P)
• Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) certification or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) certification.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, presentation software and internet communication programs
Bachelor of Science degree in healthcare related field.
Three years of experience in a CDI education role in an outpatient or large provider office setting. EPIC experience is preferred. May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
