The Division of Pediatric CV Surgery at UT Health McGovern Medical School, is seeking a motivated applicant for one Instructorship in the Department of ACTAT - Childrens Heart institute. Eligible candidates must have completed training in cardiovascular surgery, and should be eligible for full medical licensure in the state of Texas.The ideal candidate will function in an interdisciplinary environment with associated teams including Heart Failure Cardiology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, ICU teams, Advanced Care Practitioners, and all levels of medical and surgical trainees. The Instructorship will provide comprehensive exposure to the management of heart and lung disease and advanced cardiovascular procedures with the highest level of care and the best surgical outcomes for neonates, infants, children and adults with congenital heart defects. In addition, the candidate will participate in research projects and any trials including innovative therapies and devices for patients with end-stage heart and lung disease.
In collaboration with pediatric sub-specialists at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, the affiliated team provides comprehensive care for newborns, children and adolescents, with a smooth transition into adult congenital cardiac care. The program performs a significant number of advanced cardiovascular procedures and ECMO support each year. There is currently additional growth in our program in each of these areas to meet our growing clinical needs.
The program is looking for candidates who are looking to gain the knowledge and skills to prepare them for a career in this field. At the end of the training period, the Instructor will be competent in advanced cardiovascular procedures and the initiation and care of ECMO. Under the direction and supervision of the Chief, Associate Chief and attending staff the candidate will participate in the care of end-stage heart and lung failure patients in the pre-surgical phase of care.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Collaborate with the cardiology and pulmonary services in optimizing the care of Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease Patients.
Prepare and medically optimize Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease patients for surgery. Receive referrals, assist, and discuss with attending surgeon
Participate in the preservation, maintenance, resuscitation and ex-vivo assessment of pediatric CV surgery patients
Actively participate in the operative planning, the intraoperative decision making, and the performance of cardiovascular and surgical procedures
Actively manage patients in the PICU and NICU
Initiate immunosuppression and prophylaxis against opportunistic infection in pediatric patients.
Manage the complications of drugs and surgeries.
Collaborate with the Pediatric cardiology service to manage complications in patients readmitted to hospital.
Participate in daily morning and evening rounds on all patient on the PICU and NICU service
Participate in weekly multidisciplinary rounds on the Pediatric Cardiology Service.
Participate in teaching of junior medical staff, undergraduate students and other non medical staff as required.
The selected candidate for the position must have completed training in cardiovascular surgery, and should be eligible for full medical licensure in the state of Texas.Required or preferred board certification/eligibility statement. Required or preferred minimum years of clinical experience or years post residency statement.
