Position Summary:

Develops and manages a broad range of highly responsible communications support through writing and editing, counsel to faculty, staff and executive leadership, publications management, and management of health communications/education programs for the Harris County SARS-CoV-2 Prevalence Project..

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Responsible for overall project communications management, timelines as assigned, and evaluation of project work.

  2. Works with executive leadership to develop a comprehensive communications strategy,

  3. Coordinates with marketing contractors to design, implement and modify the communications strategy, as needed

  4. Develops and communicates strategic messages to promote and increase SARS-CoV-2 testing in Harris County target communities.

  5. Generates ideas for communication strategies and develops related promotional plans, tactics and materials.

  6. Collaborates with others in Public Affairs and managers throughout the university.

  7. May interact with corporate or community representatives.

  8. Conducts interviews with faculty, staff, and other appropriate sources, such as donors and patients, sometimes concerning sensitive information.

  9. Writes news/feature articles for publication.

  10. Manages Human Resources activities of project communications staff in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned

Preferred Certification/Skills:

Strong knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms.

Excellent written communication and presentation skills.

Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple project tasks at the same time.

Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or allied field.

Minimum Experience:

Seven (7) years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
