Provides professional nutrition information and services for the UTHealth School of Public Health Nourish Program including teaching nutrition classes to students and community members, assist with teaching activities in culinary medicine, garden for health, diabetes and pediatric nutrition, DI simulation courses and malnutrition training. Assist with planning, directing, supervising, and evaluating the delivery of research nutritional program services. Provide support to the Dietetic Internship & Nourish Program Directors and activities including maintaining holistic garden and supervising dietetic interns Integrative Learning Experience projects. Assist with marketing and promoting the Nourish Program, including representing the program with regional, state and national nutrition organizations, and updating the website. Monitor current research and new programs in medical nutrition therapy and health and wellness.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Teaching nutrition courses to community members virtually and face-to-face.
Assist teaching medical nutrition therapy, garden for health and health and wellness courses to students, physicians, dietitians and other allied health professionals virtually and face-to-face.
Assist with teaching activities in the diabetes and pediatric nutrition education courses face-to-face.
Assist with teaching activities in the simulation courses to include but not limited to nutrition screening, evaluation and physical assessments utilizing a patient simulator face-to-face.
Assist with malnutrition training for students, physicians, dietitians and other allied health professionals virtually and face-to-face.
Assist with research projects including but not limited to project management, data collection and patient recruitment.
Support Dietetic Internship Director and activities for the dietetic internship.
Supervise holistic garden staff and assist in maintaining the holistic garden.
Supervise dietetic interns Integrative Learning Experience projects.
Marketing, promoting, and raising awareness about Nourish Program through communication with area health professionals and other venues.
Represent the Nourish Program through participation in regional, state, and national nutrition organizations.
Monitor current research and new programs in medical nutrition therapy and health and wellness.
Assist with updating of Nourish Program website.
Other duties as assigned.
Must be a registered Dietician (RD) (registered by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics).
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Maintains dietetic registration and continuing education hours as specified by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and state licensures regulations where applicable.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in nutrition or public health. Master’s degree in Nutrition preferred.
- Four years of experience in nutrition education or public health setting. Clinical nutrition and gardening experience preferred.
- Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
- This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
