Under close direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects.
Lab is looking for ahighly motivated Research Assistantto work in the field of neuroscience using rat models of learning and memory.
The candidate should have experience in one or more of the following: rodent husbandry, rodent surgery, rodent behavior, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, electrophysiology, and laboratory management. Personal qualities essential for this job include: sense of responsibility,excellent organizational skills, clear and effective verbal/written communication, interest in working with animals, and desire to contribute to understanding the brain.The candidate is expected to directly work with students and postdocs to design and conduct experiments.A possibility exists for a highly motivated candidate to pursue an independent research project while performing lab manager duties. Salary will follow UTH rates and will be based on previous working experience. The duration of the appointment is contingent upon good performance and available funds.
Lab focuses on understanding the brain mechanisms underlying emotional memories. We are particularly interested in elucidating the neural circuits involved in the regulation of fear and reward-seeking behaviors (e.g.; fear- and food/drug-associated memories).Our Lab usesa multidisciplinary approach that combines immunohistochemistry, optogenetics, chemogenetics, electrophysiological recordings, and calcium imaging in freely behaving rodents.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Under close supervision, conducts research activities according to research protocol.
May maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or work area to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
Collects, evaluates, and interprets research data to provide needed information to principal investigators and other researchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.
Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for research department.
Orders laboratory and/or other supplies as directed by senior research staff.
As needed, may coordinate the work of laboratory technicians and assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high quality results.
Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
Performs other duties as assigned.
General knowledge of research fields.
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.
No years of experience.
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
