Position Summary:

Under close direction of senior

research staff, conducts activities to support research projects. The PAC

Palpation Study will recruit MSM and transwomen who have sex with men aged 25

years and over. However, the focus is persons aged 45 - 65 since these

are the years when most persons present with anal cancer. That could be a

person of any age if they are familiar with Houston SGM communities.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Under close supervision, conducts research activitiesaccording to research protocol. Will need to have the ability tosupport recruitment by presenting the study to community groups,distribution of study recruitment material, and support in theircreation. Knowing which Houston bars and businesses are most likelyto attract the target population is also important. Active recruitment inHouston clinics and spaces serving this study population will also beneeded (E.g.,Crofoot Clinic, Thomas StreetHealth Center, Legacy Community Health Services, and Montrose Center)

  • Much recruitment will be through social media. Knowingwhich social apps are most used by the study population is important.

  • Will have extensive contact with the Houston CommunityAdvisory Board .

  • May maintain clean laboratory equipment and/or workarea to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

  • Collects, evaluates, and interprets research data toprovide needed information to principal investigators and otherresearchers. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.

  • Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for researchdepartment.

  • Orders laboratory and/or other supplies as directed bysenior research staff.

  • As needed, may coordinate the work of laboratorytechnicians and assistants to ensure efficient, timely and high qualityresults.

  • Complies with all governmental and University policies,rules, regulations, and codes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of concepts of research field assigned.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field of science or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

  • Two (2) years of related experience in a research or clinical lab environment.

  • May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
