Position Summary:

We are looking for two Research Assistants who will assist with the day to day administrative project management and may provide scientific direction for research projects of considerable scope and complexity in our Internal Medicine area. They will be preferred to be bilingual in Spanish and English (though not a requirement), and must have prior experience with clinical research. You should be able to solve problems well. Preference will be given to candidates who have basic microbiology experience.

This is a full time role that is classified as non-exempt. It is eligible for all UTHealth benefits including healthcare coverage and participation in a retirement plan run by the State of Texas. You will be officing in the Texas Medical Center at a facility accessible by bus or train and with many parking options.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintains confidential records of collected data, ensures accuracy and integrity of data. Data may include patient data and departmental programmatic data.

  • Assists with budget preparation, reports on progress and expenses, and supervises billing reconciliations. Assists in grant proposals to both private foundations and governmental agencies. Assists with grant proposals, contracts or other science related documentation to ensure compliance with mandatory state and federal regulations. Assists investigators with proposal editing and writing to secure extramural funding.

  • Assists with the day to day project management coordination for research projects to include personnel, facilities, supplies in support of research project desired outcomes, budgets, and timeliness.

  • Assists PI in obtaining Informed Consent forms from study participants and documents appropriately. Incorporates directions from other health care disciplines into clinical research protocols when reviewing patient eligibility; assists in eliciting relevant data from sources outside of UT Health. Manages multiple databases including national and international database for sites in Colombia and Chile.

  • Interacts with representatives from state, federal, and private agencies regarding proposals and funded projects.

  • Provides work administrative direction and guidance to administrative staff personnel within department.

  • Assists in processing and shipping lab specimens efficiently and cost effectively; maintains supply inventory and equipment; maintains regulatory standards. Utilizes microbiology skills to process and store lab specimens. Develops and maintains productive working relationship with the study monitors; attends and participates in campus coordinator workshops. Assist PIs with performing and analyzing experiments results using PCR to analyze DNA or RNA.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office.

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

  • Candidate has to have experience with clinical research

  • Excellent research and problem solving skills

  • Candidate has to have basic microbiology experience

Minimum Education:

At least a Bachelors degree or four years of experience in lieu of degree.

At least Four years of experience
