Position Summary:

We are looking for a Research Scientist who will work with the School of Biomedical Informatics. This employee designs and conducts research in the area of complex disease genetics, genomics and bioinformatics based studies. The primary responsibilities include development of analytical pipelines or computational methods, data processing and analysis, results interpretation, management of data, coordination of research projects, prepare reports, assistant with manuscripts and grant proposal writing, problem solving, training and supervising junior lab members, among others. In general this employee plans, supervises, and directs research, investigation, or other technical operations. Provides technical expertise to facilitate the design, implementation, and analysis of procedures, techniques, and results, which enables investigators to conduct research projects.

This is a fulltime position that is classified as exempt. It is eligible for all UTHealth benefits including medical coverage and participation in a retirement program administered by the State of Texas. Your work location will be in the heart of the Texas Medical Center at our University Center Tower building.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Design and conduct genetics and informatics research.

  2. Assist grant proposal development and manuscript writing.

  3. Present results in a written paper for publication, in a presentation at a meeting, or through personal contact with faculty members and other researchers.

  4. Train, support and supervise junior lab members.

  5. Manage research protocols and research data

  6. Provide support and training of genome technologies and bioinformatics analysis to other researchers

Certification/Skills:

You must be familiar with one computer programming, excellent knowledge and skills in genomic data analysis.

Previous publication(s) in genomics, bioinformatics, or statistical genetics is preferred.

Minimum Education:

Doctorate Degree.

Minimum Experience:

Two (2) years of experience in a related research environment that gives you experience in human genetics studies or related, and have verifiable publications within the field of the research project.

Good knowledge in bioinformatics.

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, scientific professionalism, and deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.
