Full time, nonexempt laboratory based position in Integrative Biology & Pharmacology located in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Animal housing and experiments, as well as basic laboratory assays, such as cell culture, qPCR, Western Blot, and staining.
Position Summary:
Provides technical assistance in carrying out assigned duties of research projects.
Position Key Accountabilities:
Prepares, conducts, records, and analyzes various tests in a clinical and/or diagnostic laboratory setting involved in research.
Collects appropriate patient history data. Research subjects may range from traumatically injured central nervous system and burn patients, patients with respiratory disorders, and rheumatology patients.
Collects human and animal blood and urine specimens and conducts various tests involving chemical and carcinogenic agents, animal psychophysics, retinal histology, and various tissue cultures. Collection techniques includes data collection, assays, cell passaging, arterial punctures, obtaining blood samples, and performing rheumatologic tests.
Processes blood and urine specimens to obtain tests results.
Performs tests using a centrifuge, UV light microscope with fluorescent attachment, autoclave machine, and pipet washer equipment.
Cleans and sterilizes all glassware, instruments, and pipets.
Orders and stocks laboratory with supplies.
Obtains and photocopies reference materials.
Maintains a safe laboratory environment and follows safety procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
None.
Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
Two years of research laboratory experience.
May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

Residency Requirement:
