UTHealth is looking for a Senior Marketing & Communications Specialistto serve as a valued member of the team responsible for creatingwritten material/collateral to inform and promote products associated with Information Technology.This role will involve high level communications regarding EPIC, an electronic health record system utilized by UTHealth. This role will also provide assistance in promoting the clinical enterprise to referring physicians. This position is part of the marketing and communication team that supports the clinical enterprise known as UT Physicians.

To qualify for this position, you must have at least five years of experience inmarketing,communication,journalism, oran allied field. Communication and organizational skills are a must.Having EPICcommunicationexperience is a plus.This is a full-time position that is classified as exempt.It will be eligible for all UTHealth benefits including excellent health care options,as well as participation in a retirement plan administered by the State of Texas. You will report to the Universityof TexasProfessional Building located in the heart of the Texas Medical Center.Currently,themarketing team is working remotely,but will need to report to the office at times (this is subject to change). Ourmarketing team is often called to travel around to clinical locations, so be prepared to travel throughout the area as needed.

Position Summary:

Responsible for creating marketing and communications programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products including graphics, product collateral, logos, and other promotional products.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Analyzes customer requirements, and develops messaging architecture, competitive positioning, and specifics for vehicles/projects.

  2. Responsible for driving the creative development process, and communicating the project development as needed.

  3. Communicates and maintains relationships with outside vendors/agencies for design and execution of advertising campaigns and mail campaigns.

  4. Consistently keeps internal and external web content updated through utilization of social media channels to promote service lines, physicians, and the organization.

  5. Uses desktop publishing software to create various print and electronic publications such as monthly newsletters and other email marketing initiatives.

  6. Creates patient-driven success stories to promote the practice in AP-style.

  7. Designs marketing materials used for external advertising and promotional events.

  8. Assists with printing, assembly, and distribution of publications to patients, faculty, and staff.

  9. Responsible for interacting with corporate or community representatives as a representative of UT Physician at promotional events in order to gather information and prepare reports.

  10. Conducts interviews and research, generates ideas for communication strategies, writes news and feature articles for publication, and collaborates and assists other team members as assigned.

  11. Performs duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction while maintaining confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines in regard to patient information.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned.


Superior written and verbal communication skills; and proven feature writing, speech writing and news writing skills. Knowledge of content management system skills preferred. Demonstrates problem solving skills and works well in a team environment. Knowledge in producing well-written, creative copy with a strong knowledge of AP style. Knowledge of Adobe Suite, and Adobe PageMaker; and proficient in Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Strong knowledge of Databases, Internet, Social Media, WordPress, and basic web content.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications or related field.

Minimum Experience:

Five years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
