The Group Practice Staff Dentist serves as the lead generalist provider for the Group Practice, responsible for providing primary diagnosis, prevention and a broad scope of appropriate dental services while advancing the school’s vision of “Improving oral health…improving overall health”. The position reports to the Chief Clinical Officer of the DSRDP enterprise.
Position Key Accountabilities:
The Group Practice Staff Dentist’s primary responsibilities are:
Practice high-quality, broad scope and ethical patient care as set forth by the American Dental Association.
Comply with the federal, state and local laws associated with the practice of dentistry and the Staff Dentist’s discipline.
Fully understand and comply with the UT Dentists’ Operating Manual and “Standards of Practice”.
Examine, evaluate, diagnose and treat patients requesting dental care, including prescribing and/or referring individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in accordance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
Provide culturally-competent, evidence-based, patient-centered treatment; prescribe and carry out, or direct others in carrying out, health promotion and disease prevention.
Complete comprehensive treatment records, including but not limited to health history, treatment notes, referrals, informed consent and other needed documentation related to patient care, in accordance with clinical protocols, and local, state and federal regulations.
Manage patients with dental emergencies during regular business hours and at times when the Group Practice is closed or not seeing patients, i.e., after-hours, holidays and faculty meetings.
Provide clinical support to Dental Hygiene Staff.
Serve as clinical representative for UT Dentists in cultivating long-term rapport with community physicians and dentists to optimize inter-referral networking opportunities and the general promotion of oral health education and disease prevention.
Actively participate in the provisions of continuing education, on-the-job training and orientation of clinical support staff; and, the ongoing professional development, coaching/mentoring and training for practice dentists and staff, including the development of goals and objectives as needed.
Perform other tasks as assigned to achieve organization and program goals and objectives, including periodic review of clinical productivity.
Current Texas State Dental License
DDS/DMD degree from CODA-accredited dental school. Completion of an accredited advanced training program and/or certificate (AEGD, GPR), preferred.
Current CPR (BLS) certification, ACLS, Nitrous certification, preferred.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient experience with Electronic Health Record systems
Digital imaging and CAD/CAM technology experience, highly preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of primary dental care, CDT coding and standard documentation guidelines.
Proficient understanding of clinical practice operations in a private practice setting
