Position Summary:

Provides operational oversight of applied experiences, including internships and practicum, and other services provided by the Office of Public Health Practice and Engagement at UTHealth School of Public Health. Additionally, this position plans and administers operational activities of the practicum program; contributes to the development of educational and administrative goals and objectives; develops and maintains program infrastructure; and provides guidance on other pertinent program issues.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Serves as a liaison between students, alumni, faculty, administration, and external public health professionals and partners to support practicum requirements, student guidance and placement, and the identification and development of placement opportunities.

  • Works with the director and assistant director to develop, administer, evaluate, and refine applied experience programming and office goals, objectives, and activities.

  • Administratively supports the Practice Council at UTHealth School of Public Health.

  • Plans, coordinates and assists with administrative and technical operations of the office, including managing inquiries, sorting correspondence, and organizing activities and records.

  • Develops and maintains guidance documents, reports, informational articles, program-specific text, and informational technology (e.g., program website, CRM platforms).

  • Collects and manages program- and student-specific data and maintains databases.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Advisory, technical and organizational skills.

  • Ability to make general decisions requiring a comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of regulations, policies, procedures and practices. Generally requires use of initiative and independent judgment.


  • Excellent computer and data management skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and exceptional customer service skills with an emphasis on student needs.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, collegiality, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with three (3) years of related experience in a student affairs or student services setting; or

  • Master’s degree in related field with one (1) year of related experience in a student affairs or student services setting.

  • Master’s degree in public health or social sciences preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Years of experience varies based on education level. Experience in higher education, public health practice, and internship/practicum counseling and placement management preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
