Position Summary:

Provides overall support of a department’s/unit’s day-to-day IT support or specialized server with school-wide impact.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Installs, configures, maintains, repairs specializedsystems/applications and provides system support in a networked environment.

  • Troubleshoots advanced level issues and providessupport/direction to staff. Performs desktop duties in smallerdepartments/units.

  • Interacts with other departments/units on atroubleshooting and knowledge sharing basis.

  • Develops and recommends departmental/unitinformation technology budget.

  • Researches, recommends, and purchases specifichardware and software for the department/unit.

  • Installs servers, Windows/ Linux operating systems,patches and upgrades

  • Installing, testing, managing & debuggingstorage (SAN) sub-systems

  • Setup/configure cluster systems, virtual machinesusing Hyper-V Manager

  • Performs system backups for all appropriate servers.

  • Maintains server/application security certificates

  • Maintains required procedures, security logs andsystem records for audit

  • Administers and maintains all security updates toservers

  • Maintains security groups, permissions on fileservices on clusters

  • Manage secureFTP sites and configurations

  • Maintains inventory information of servers, desktopservices, and equipment.

  • Participates and executes rollouts/deployments,migrations and upgrades as part of the IT team.

  • Advises department or school and provides them withIT solutions.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • MCSE or MCITP (Microsoft Certified IT Professional) preferred.

  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft SCCM is a plus.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V Management

  • Knowledge/ working with MS-SQL server is a plus.

  • Knowledge and working with MacOS is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and also in a team environment with a variety of different technologies.

  • Strong understanding of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, SMTP, SNMP.

  • Strong background in hardware troubleshooting including Dell, HP, Mac.

  • Proven implementation skills for enterprise level solutions.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and time management skills

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience:

  • Five years of related experience.


  • 5 years of System administration experience

  • 2-3 years of experience with Red hat Linux (RHEL)

  • 2-3 years of experience asa Windows administrator supporting Active Directory structure, services, roles,group policy, and other Microsoft technologies in a Windows enterpriseenvironment.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
