UTHealth Houston’s Office of Public Affairs is looking for a University Editorial Assistant to work in their office on communications for both external and internal audiences of the university. This employee provides editorial assistance to ensure print and digital content for UTHealth Houston is presented in an accurate, professional, and consistent manner. You should have a knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style as well as more casual house styles. The focus of this job is quality control – making sure names are correct, format is consistent, and brand standards are adhered to. You should have proficiency in tracked changes in Microsoft Word and related apps. Some work is done directly online, so knowledge of content management systems is preferred. Experience with web copywriting, search engine optimization (SEO), web accessibility standards, and/or basic graphic design will also be assets.

This editorial assistant will work a hybrid schedule of being remote and on-site when needed. Our office is in the Texas Medical Center at our University Center Tower location. You will be working closely with a lead editor on projects and articles, and also with others within Public Affairs.

Position Summary:

Provides editorial assistance to ensure print and digital content for UTHealth Houston is presented in an accurate, professional, and consistent manner.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  1. Fact-checks, proofreads, and edits copy produced by team members in the Office of Public Affairs and communication professionals in other departments across the UTHealth Houston campuses.2. Provides editorial support on marketing/communication collateral produced by clinical partners.3. Serves as a champion of the UTHealth Houston brand, ensuring that content aligns with editorial standards, harnessing the style, tone, and voice of the university.4. Performs other duties as assigned

Certification/Skills:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and knowledge of AP Style.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism or related field.

Minimum Experience:

Two years of experience in writing and editing.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount.

Residency Requirement:
